Today is the day. It finally happened. And it happened on iHeart Radio’s 93.3 KTCL. My music was played on the radio!
This is a moment I’ve been dreaming of since I was 12 years old, watching Hannah Montana in my bedroom during the summers (I promise I got outside too). That was the year I emailed Radio Disney to ask them how to submit my songs.
At the time, I didn’t play an instrument, and everything I’d recorded was a cappella (the lyrics hideously sub-par). But that didn’t stop me from dreaming (I miss that little girl sometimes). Radio Disney emailed me back and told me all about performing rights organizations. I spent the next two weeks researching BMI and ASCAP (and finding out I was too little to sign up without a parent) and Disney’s submission system.
Fast forward 10 years and it’s happened. My songs are recorded and registered with BMI, and my Locals Only submission went somewhere – the actual radio. So please excuse me while I happy dance around my apartment in my PJs. It’s all I’m currently capable of.
